Updating your Faith

IS YOUR FAITH ON THE LATEST OPERATING SYSTEM?

I keep seeing this bag. It's so pretty because of it's geometric design. I even complimented a friend who was using it. Told her bag is nice, where'd she get it, and all that. She politely answered saying she got it in Japan because it's cheaper to buy it where it's from and I said, oh yeah, nice.

Months later I see the bag again. On my timeline. It’s called the BaoBao bag. Do you know this? I don’t. And yes, it’s pretty accurate to conclude that I am quite outdated for a celebrity.

My father in law recently asked me something about the MMFF. Unfortunately I also did not know this information. He started to laugh thinking how odd it was that he was more updated about my former business than me.

The truth is if I were a clerk, librarian, assistant in my old life, then perhaps I’d even be far less updated about fashion and pop culture today. I really am not the coolest person in town. I am also not the most fashionable. I smile like a geek in my candid moments. I wear clothes I bought from ten years ago. I would rather buy books than a nice top.

But since 2006 there is something I do not forget to update: my relationship with God and my knowledge of Him. update

Once I was at church and the pastor asked, “Is there anything new that you could add to your testimony? Or was the last sacrifice you made for God, after all these years, still happens to be the one you gave up when you first got saved?”

I’d like to add, what was the last new thing you learned about Him, His Power, His Word? Or are we all stuck in a certain year of His goodness and did not move forward from then on?

I may not know the latest lipstick, latest bag, or blazer coat, but I do know that my faith update each year assures that my relationship with God is totally fresh and in season. To ensure this I buy materials to help me become more theologically sound, I challenge myself with biblical studies I have not encountered before, and I pursue bold decisions of faith no matter what the cost, if it means I’ll go deeper in my relationship with an infinite God.

My prayer for all of you today is that as you update your phone, your fashion, your planner this year, may you never forget that it is far more important to update your knowledge of God and your relationship with Him! 🙂
